Who Is Eligible for Hospice?

Hospice care is a specialized form of care focused on providing comfort and support to patients who are nearing the end of their life. It is available to anyone who is eligible for it, regardless of their condition or stage of disease.

To be eligible for hospice care, a patient must first be diagnosed with a terminal illness that runs its normal course. This means that the illness will not go away through conventional treatments and will eventually lead to the patient's death. Once this has been confirmed by a physician, the patient can then begin receiving hospice care.

The purpose of hospice care is to provide comfort and support until the patient dies peacefully and naturally. This means that all therapies – including traditional treatments like surgery and chemotherapy – are stopped once a diagnosis has been made. Instead, focus is placed on providing emotional and spiritual support to the patient and their loved ones.
